Making the Internet Safe and Fun for Your Child
Parenting Tips and a New Safety Feature from Invest in Kids and Aliant
(Halifax, November 24, 2006)—Parents in Canada now have a new place to go to get information on how best to help their children navigate all aspects of the Internet. Through a new partnership, Invest in Kids and Aliant have developed a Web page at www.aliant.net that provides parents with some practical tips on how they can help their kids use the Internet. Through this site, Aliant is also offering parents access to Parental Control – their popular Internet security service.
“Children are accessing the Internet at an increasingly young age and are spending more time online than ever before. There are many websites that provide children with great learning opportunities, however, not all of them are safe. That’s why Aliant has partnered with Invest in Kids to develop a Web page that helps parents and their children have a positive, educational, fun and, most importantly, safe experience on the Web,” says Joe Mosher, Aliant Director of Internet Services.
“Many parents tell us they are concerned with the effects online content can have on the well-being of their children. Invest in Kids, in partnership with Aliant, has created some simple, but effective tips for parents based on the Comfort, Play & Teach: A Positive Approach to Parenting™ framework. These tips will show parents how they can make the most of their children’s time online whether their children are surfing the Internet alone or together with their parents,” says Marie-France LeBlanc, Regional Director, Invest in Kids.
The new website includes the “Get Help and Advice” feature that parents can use to ask questions about online safety and to obtain answers from Invest in Kids’ parenting and child development experts. Aliant is donating $1 from the sale of each Parental Control Internet Security service until December 31, 2006 to the Invest in Kids’ fund for creation of parenting resources which support the healthy social, emotional and intellectual development of children from birth to age five.
Invest in Kids is a national charity dedicated to helping parents become the parents they want and need to be.
