The Parenting Partnership

About The Parenting Partnership

“This program has been and still is a great experience for new parents. I hope you continue to enlighten many more new parents to come.”
Patricia, Steven and Madison – parents who have completed the program.

Invest in Kids is pleased to now be offering licensing opportunities for The Parenting Partnership, their unique prenatal and parenting education program.

The Parenting Partnership is an innovative, comprehensive prenatal and parenting education program designed to ensure the best possible start in life for Canada’s children.  The program is for groups of couples expecting a baby in the same month and begins in the prenatal period and continues for 14 months after birth. It is offered through a combination of engaging online and in face-to-face sessions.

“The Parenting Partnership is different from other prenatal classes because it helps new moms and dads work on both their parenting skills and their relationship as a couple,” says Karon Foster, Director of The Parenting Partnership. “With this program we look at not just how to care for the baby, but also how to care for your relationship through all the changes that come with new parenthood.”

Spanning a year and a half, The Parenting Partnership covers everything from pregnancy through to the infancy stage, giving new parents guidance timed directly to their baby’s development. And with a combination of online sessions and face-to-face classes, The Parenting Partnership is structured to work around the schedule of busy parents.  Parents meet weekly for the prenatal classes. Following the birth of their baby, parents meet once a month.

The Parenting Partnership has been developed and evaluated through three pretests over three years to help Invest in Kids determine that it is:

  • Deliverable, consistently, to the same quality standard across a range of sites and Parent Educators
  • Liked by parents, who find it useful
  • Supported by Parent Educators, who are confident in its content and delivery

Features of the program include:

  • Well-researched content that is continually being reviewed and refined to ensure that it is current and meets healthcare standards and which covers the topics parents need and want to learn about
  • Flexibility – the program can be adopted as a whole or in various components, such as prenatal only or postnatal only
  • Compliance with Baby Friendly Initiative
  • A resource kit which provides all resources (posters, videos, supplies, etc.) needed to offer the program

“When I first signed up to do this I had no idea what a wonderful experience this would be – not just for the parents, but for myself as well. I have taught many parenting groups over the years, but this one is unique. To watch a family grow form pregnancy to the baby’s first birthday is an amazing thing. A couple goes through so many changes with the preparation for the baby’s arrival and that whole first year. It’s been valuable that these parents have had each other to turn to for specific questions or just moral support. It’s been even more advantageous for these parents to have parent educators to go to for any issues, problems and moral support too.” Health Practitioner - Nurse
