The Power of Parenting
Thursday, 18 June 2020
This is a fun Comfort, Play & Teach™ activity that will encourage your child to talk about the pictures he draws. He can imagine he is a storyteller or an author as he shares his ideas and describes his drawings!
You will need:
- Paper
- Drawing materials (e.g., pencils, crayons, markers, chalk, pastels)
Here's what to do while you make it:
- Provide your child with paper and drawing materials and encourage her to create a picture of the family or of a favourite activity. Fold some sheets of paper in half so they look more like a booklet. She can pretend to create her own picture book!
- Invite her to tell you a story about her picture and offer to write down her words. Then read the words back to her, tracing your finger under each one as you say it. This will help her begin to understand the relationship between speech and print.
