New Activity: Teaching Teddy Bears

As your child begins to attend kindergarten, he will enjoy pretending to be a teacher, showing his toys how to read and write! Simple props can provide time to describe his experiences at school.

You will need:
  • Teddy bears and dolls
  • Picture and board books
  • Paper, pencils and crayons

Enjoy this more with Comfort, Play & Teach™:

Comfort:

  • Using play props to role-play new experiences gives your child the opportunity to express his feelings and thoughts, and to practice the skills he is learning in a way that makes him feel safe and secure.

Play:

  • Providing picture and board books will encourage your child to make up stories about what she sees in the pictures and read to her teddy bears and dolls they same way you and your teacher read to her!

Teach:

  • Your child can use paper and pencils to draw pictures, print letters of the alphabet and copy words from the environment. These are all skills that are part of his emerging literacy skills.
