Simple fingerplays and rhymes are a wonderful way to enjoy playful and loving interactions with your infant, toddler or preschooler and to help her hear the musical quality of language. This rhyme will provide many chances to enjoy Comfort, Play & Teach™ time throughout the winter months! You will need the following traditional rhyme:
Five little snowmen fat,
Each with a funny hat.
Out came the sun and melted one,
What do you think of that?
Down, down, down, down.
What do you think of that?
Instructions:
- When playing this game with infants, hold up your hand as you recite the rhyme, so she can see one "snowman" at a time disappear! On the words "down, down, down, down" walk your fingers from your baby's head to his feet.
- With a toddler, encourage him to hold up his hand and imitate your actions as you say the words. Leave out one word at the end of each line to encourage him to fill in the blank!
- Preschoolers will be more able to recite the rhyme independently after several repetitions. Create feltboard pieces that your child can use to role-play the words!
