New Activity: Hide and Seek

When your child’s friends come to visit, or when you meet other children at a park, Hide and Seek is an excellent Comfort, Play & Teach™ activity that encourages children to play and have fun together.

You will need:
  • Space to play (indoors or outdoors) where there are safe places to hide

Instructions:
  • Explain to the children that you would like to teach them to play a game together. In this game, one person will be ‘it’. This person will close their eyes and count out loud to ten while the other children find some place to hide.
  • Once the person who is ‘it’ has counted to ten, they should call out, “Ready or not, here I come!” They must then look for the children who are hiding.
  • The last person that they find can be ‘it’ for the next game. Demonstrate being ‘it’ so the children understand what to do when it is their turn.

Enjoy this more with Comfort, Play & Teach™:

Comfort:

  • As children play this game together, they can practice taking turns, co-operating and playing fairly. These are important skills needed for getting along and being able to work well with others.

Play:

  • As children count, run, hide and are found, they will laugh and enjoy each other’s company. Hide and seek is a game that invites everyone’s participation and helps to give individuals a sense of belonging to the group.

Teach:

  • The game Hide and Seek is a shared activity that introduces children to the idea of following simple rules. This provides each player with common goals, and encourages children to play well together.
